| Douglas was originally a village
some 2 and a half miles South East of the City of Cork. This district
takes its name from the river bearing the
Gaelic
word “Dubh Ghlas” or Dark Stream.
It was originally the base for the sail cloth industry and was subsequently the home to St. Patrick’s Woollen Mills which only ceased trading in the early 1970’s. Douglas Village itself is now part of the suburbs of Cork City. Its commercial centre serves a rapidly increasing residential hinterland. It is located directly off the Southern Ring Road which provides immediate access to all parts of Cork City, the roads to Dublin and Waterford through the Jack Lynch Tunnel, to Cork International Airport and the Ferryport at Ringaskiddy. It is strategically and conveniently located for local, national and international access.
